The Preserve

The Preserve is an environment available to researchers who engage in projects that contain confidential or highly confidential data. It is highly controlled to specifically protect research that must meet听, and certain Export Control regulations.

Who Can Get It?

Any researcher or research support staff who work with highly confidential data can request access to the environment, however given that the environment is designed for CUI and Export controlled projects, all users must adhere to stringent policies, standards and procedures required to protect it. Preserve Core Features and Offerings

The Preserve offers a highly secure environment in Microsoft's Office 365 Government Community Cloud (GCC) High and Azure for Government services. The following core services and offerings are available to meet the CUI and CMMC compliance needs of campus researchers.

  • Consulting and design services for research workloads 听
  • Shared Windows virtual machine for accessing the environment
  • Isolated sub-network for research teams and projects
  • Storage account (limited capacity)

The Preserve provides a growing list of software. If it is not on this list it may be requested using the software request process.

Above and Beyond Infrastructure

If research projects require additional software and infrastructure, these can be requested, designed and estimated during the proposal phase of the project. See for more information. Below are some examples of what this could include:

  • High Performance Computing linux systems
  • Other as needed Azure resources (storage blobs, virtual machines for advanced computing (GPU's, CPU's)
  • Software licenses
