Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

What is UDL?

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-based framework for curriculum design that supports inclusive and equitable teaching. By proactively minimizing barriers to learning, UDL helps reduce the need for individual accommodations and ensures that all students have meaningful opportunities to succeed, regardless of their learning styles, abilities, or backgrounds.

Grounded in neuroscience, UDL focuses on three key areas:

  1. Multiple means of representation
    How content is presented to learners.
  2. Multiple means of action and expression
    How students demonstrate what they know.
  3. Multiple means of engagement
    How students stay motivated and involved in the learning process.

Rather than following a fixed set of steps, UDL encourages a flexible mindset that anticipates the needs of diverse learners and creates space for all students to thrive.

Services We Offer

Consultations

Our team offers individual and small-group consultations to support UDL implementation. Consultations typically last between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on your goals and questions. These sessions are designed to explore specific challenges, brainstorm strategies, and guide best practices in inclusive course design.

On-Demand Trainings

Our one-hour Introduction to UDL session provides a practical overview of the framework, highlights inclusive teaching strategies, and models real-world applications. These sessions are interactive and appropriate for any audience. Upon request, we can also create custom workshops to meet the needs of specific departments, courses, or programs.
