Climate Projects

Present

With the advent of the NASA (Science and Technology Education for Land/Life Assessment) instrument, at home and civilian science projects to study the climate are more readily available than ever.

The ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø Climate Adaptation and Resilience Monitoring Alliance (CARMA) team is utilizing NASA’s STELLA spectroscopy device to study the impacts of climate change on plant health in a variety of vulnerable environments. By using this technology, CARMA can determine whether a plant is stressed before it shows any visible signs by collecting readings from visible and near infrared spectra. CARMA aims to investigate causes of stress including drought, soil health, and agricultural practices with the STELLA device and provide verification of the device's accuracy for use in research and agriculture.

Colorado Space Grant Consortium has created a statewide design program inspired by the CARMA project. The EONS Challenge encourages student team from Affiliate Institutions across the state to apply the STELLA instrument to develop their own environmental focused research project. This program is in its early stages of development. More info on the EONS Challenge can be found on the Statewide Program webpage.Ìý
