Director Pasnau receives prestigious fellowship in Paris

We are delighted to announce that Director Robert Pasnau听for the Center for Western Civilization, Thought & Policy, has been selected as a fellow at the听Insitute for Advanced Studies in Paris for the 2019-20 academic year.
Pasnau will take part in a 10-month fellowship program with the prestigious Paris Institute, where he will work collaboratively with researchers and academics from all over the world. Pasnau will be joining a group of 20 exceptional individuals whose research听covers a wide range of听disciplines related to the humanities and the social sciences.听
Pasnau will be working with scholars at the Sorbonne (University of Paris) on a series of academic听projects relating to the听history of philosophy. In the latter part of the Middle Ages, rapidly changing ideas about human freedom and autonomy gave some of the first indications of the rise of modern thought. Humans began to conceive of themselves as free and separate individuals and not as closely tied to the institutions of church and state. Pasnau's research reflects how changes in conceptions of will were affected during this period in history.听听
鈥淚t will be exciting to work with an interdisciplinary, international group of scholars, and it will be exciting to have a full year to devote to my own scholarly work,鈥 says Pasnau on his upcoming fellowship.
Pasnau will be living in Paris with his wife during the upcoming academic year.
We are beyond thrilled for Bob and wish him luck in Paris! An interim director for the Center will be named in the coming weeks.
