In a new paper in the journal, "AI and Ethics," Professor Amir Behzadan and his PhD student, Armita Dabiri, are unearthing new insights into how the artificial intelligence (AI) technology we might encounter in daily life, such as self-driving cars, can earn our confidence.
Improving how we communicate risks, Amir Behzadan, professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering and fellow of the Institute of Behavioral Science, and Mary Angelica Painter are developing more effective, engaging ways to keep people safe during extreme events.
"Early AI models demonstrate improved skill in forecasting events like hurricanes, winter storms and heat waves," said Professor Amir Behzadan. "These models are potentially valuable tools for alerting residents earlier, ultimately saving lives and property."
On April 19, Professor Amir Behzadan, of ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø’s Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, hosted a workshop where participants were introduced to human-centered AI applications in disaster management and encouraged to work toward ways to adopt AI-informed solutions.
